Canada’s Friendly Work Permit Programs

PISA Studying in CanadaCanada has become an ideal destination for international students who wish to study abroad. There are several reasons why Canada offers students an attractive package to students.

High-Quality Education

One of the reasons that Canada’s education system stands at the top is because the Canadian government highly funds education at all levels. Post-secondary institutions focus on teaching and research quality. Although Canada may have fewer universities than some countries, one quarter out of 100 Canadian universities are in the world’s top ranks. These include the Universities of Toronto, McGill, UBC and the University of Alberta.

Cost of Tuition

Compared to other countries, Canada’s education is affordable. Tuition for one year at a Canadian university can cost anywhere from $10,000 CAD to $30,000 CAD. Compare this to an average of $30,000 USD to $45,000 USD in the USA or $28-25,000 USD in Australia or $18,000 USD in the UK

Cost of Living

The cost of living is more affordable than that found in other countries such as the UK, USA and Australia. So if you are looking for a world recognised degree at an affordable price, then you will want to study in Canada at one of their top ranking universities.

Canada’s Attractive Work Programs for Students

Canada has immigration friendly work-permit programs like their Post-Graduation Work Permit program. A student can work up to three years in Canada and be eligible for a Permanent Residency upon completion of the program. Their Canadian Experience Class program allows a student to apply for Permanent Residence in Canada once they have landed a job.

The Canadian government is quick to acknowledge that it is an aging country where they do not have enough young people to replace retirees. Therefore new young international students are the desired candidates to help their economy grow.

All of these benefits make Canada an ideal country to study in.

Permanent Residency after Graduation now easier in Canada

airport-studying in canadaEffective November 18, 2016, Canada’s Express Entry program has just become easier for international students studying in Canada. The two main improvements are:

The Comprehensive Ranking System will grant 15 points for a 1 to 2 year diploma or certificate. Students who obtain a degree or diploma that is three years or longer will bet 30 points. There are also many other points an international student will be able to obtain. The relative young age of graduates will prove a plus in staking up the points. Additionally they will be able to get points for language proficiency, having a degree (regardless of length) and Canadian work experience which many students will have if they have participated in part-time employment or a Co-op work program during their studies.

Time Spent Studying will also work towards the time required to obtain permanent residency. That means that some of the time an international student spends studying will be factored into meeting the time in Canada requirement for their PR.

Canada is certainly one of the more attractive study abroad destinations and these recent changes to Canada’s immigration policies have just made it that more attractive.

The University of Alberta: On the Cutting Edge of Technology

ecocar_735x284The University of Alberta in Canada is celebrating because their EcoCar Team just won an international competition in Detroit.  Their eyes are now set for the world eco-car championship in England.

So what is this EcoCar all about?

Well, it is a car that is based on hydrogen fuel cells.  A fuel cell takes hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity.  Usable electric power is produced as long as there is hydrogen supplied to the fuel cell.  Fuel cell technology is a technology with promise because hydrogen fuel cells can be utilized in renewable energy, reduce pollution levels and be economical.

So if you are a student who aspires to build or design a prototype car of tomorrow, then you will want to join a Mechanical Engineering program at the University of Alberta.  There are research and participation opportunities for students at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

Be part of tomorrow’s future and a part of Canada’s future, study at the University of Alberta.  The university has scholarship opportunities for high-achieving international students.

The University of Alberta Scores Tops Worldwide

Nursing study in canadaAccording to the latest QS World Rankings for Subjects, the University of Alberta ranks in 4th position in their nursing program. With a myriad of nursing programs in the world, this is remarkable.  They ranked in the top 50 in Pharmacy & Pharmacology, Education, Archeology, Mining Engineering and English Literature & Language.  Their other programs did not trail far behind, as these were placed in the top 51 to 100 placements.

So if you’re an international student looking for a top notch university to study at, you will want to study at the University of Alberta, in Canada.  The University of Alberta is one of the top research universities in Canada and has scholarships for international students both at the bachelor and graduate levels.

If you are a high school student in Pakistan and you are considering studying in Canada next year, you will want to contact their International Recruiter in Pakistan.  You can leave a message on this site and we will put you in touch with their recruiting officer.

Canada’s Immigration Perks for International Students

airport-studying in canadaUnder the new management of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Canada is changing its immigration policies to the benefit of international students who choose Canada as their study destination.

One of the more immediate benefits will be seen in Bill C-6 where international students can count 50% of their study time towards meeting the physical residency requirement for permanent residency.  So for each day spent studying, they can count one-half day towards meeting that requirement, up to one year.  For easy math, 2 years of study means 1 year of meeting the permanent residency requirement.  Additionally, students will only need to reside three years out of five to qualify.

Other positive changes are also expected further down the pipeline.  So watching Canada’s immigration policy changes will bring its rewards to international students who want to permanently reside in Canada.  These changes should be welcoming changes to the student who wants to study in Canada.

Canada’s Immigration Minister claims that the best candidates for Canadian citizenship are their international students, therefore every measure must be considered to make Canada attractive to the international student.  Canada’s current population is aging and to keep the economy going and to fill the employment demands of the future, Canada needs immigrants.

Who better to fill that pool than international students who have studied in Canada, have Canadian degrees and know Canada?  It is a win-win situation for both the international student who wants to study and stay in Canada and for the country of Canada.

Benefits of International Students Studying in Canada

SwarnWedding 006This article comes with a twist.  Most articles depict the benefits an international student might have when they study in Canada, but I want to focus on how Canada; the host country, benefits from students who study within its shores.

Although there are many pluses, the three main ones are social, cultural and economic.

Social Benefits – By having a diverse international student body, Canadian youth and adults can mingle with students from almost any country in the world.  New friendships develop and this might even mean trips overseas for Canadians who have developed fast friendships with international students.  Also, these international exchanges at the social level can positively change a national’s perspective about the citizens of different countries that are often portrayed negatively in the media.

Cultural Benefits – International students bring their culture with them and Canadians can learn about different cultures and ideas.  Not only is food and dance a part of culture, but Canadians can learn attitudes, values and perspectives as well.  This not only enriches our lives, but also the classroom discussions as well.  All students, national and international get a broader, well-rounded education from the contributions of international students.

Economic Benefits – The economic benefits to the Canadian economy cannot be overestimated.  In fact, that is the driving point of the Canadian government’s mandate to increase the number of international students studying in Canada.  A small population in a vast, resource rich, technically advanced country means there is a need for skilled professionals.  The demand is there.  Additionally, international students spend money on food, clothing and other commodities which increases sales and builds the economy.  Also, international students pay far more for tuition than national students thus subsidizing education for Canadian nationals and also increasing the number of seats that are allotted to international students.  This is a win-win situation for students, both international and national, governments and institutions.

With all of these benefits, and more which Canada obtains from having an international student study at one of their educational institutions, international students should not hesitate to consider Canada as an ideal study destination.  There are a good number of world ranking universities and excellent teaching colleges and campuses in Canada.  The land of Canada awaits the student who wants to study in Canada.

A 30% Savings to Study in Canada

This year and in the coming years Canada is and will be the ideal place to study.  In fact, American students are crossing the border in large numbers to take advantage of the decreased value of the Canadian dollar.

Canada already boasts lower tuition rates and cost of living expenses than its American counterparts and this makes Canada an attractive study destination.  But nowadays, the Canadian dollar is worth about 30% less than the American dollar which makes studying in Canada, from both an academic and financial perspective, even more attractive than ever before.  Thirty percent less in the value of the Canadian dollar over the US dollar means that whatever your currency you can get a world recognised degree for less money than if you studied in the US.  That is a good value for your educational investment.

If you are still looking for an undergraduate program, you can still meet the admission deadlines for several Canadian universities.  For example, you can choose from over 200 undergraduate program in 18 faculties at the prestigious University of Alberta, and there deadline is March 1st for international students.

Canada’s Engineering Diploma Programs That Can Lead to a Degree

Hands on Studying in CanadaIf your dream is to study in Canada where you can obtain a Bachelor’s in Engineering degree, but you don’t have the marks to meet the higher academic requirements of a major university in Canada, do not despair.  There are many opportunities to study in Canada where you can get an Engineering Diploma and then get credit transfer at a Canadian university where you can complete your Bachelor’s degree.  Most of these programs are 2 + 2 where you take a 2 year diploma and 2 years to complete the degree at a university.

Here are some great engineering diplomas that can lead to an engineering degree:

Power Engineering Technology – This is a 2 year program and graduates can get credit transfer to some universities both in the US and Canada.  Deadline for submission of application was February 1st, 2016 so if you are in Grade 11 or doing your O levels, then you can look forward to applying to this program for the 2017-18 year.  Applications may still be considered for January 2017.

Power Engineers can work in industrial and electrical power plants and commercial buildings where they can work with boilers, turbines and condensers in steam engine plants as well as with internal combustion engines.

Mechanical Engineering Technology – This is a 3 year program and graduates can get credit transfer to some universities both in the US and Canada.  Deadline for submission of application was February 1st, 2016 so if you are in Grade 11 or doing your O levels, then you can look forward to applying to this program for the 2017-18 year.  Applications may still be considered or January 2017.

Mechanical Engineers apply scientific and engineering principles for design and fabrication of mechanical apparatus and systems.  Employment can be found in automotive, aerospace, food processing and manufacturing industries.

Engineering diploma programs are offered by polytechnic institutions where tuition is often much less than that found at a major university.  Co-op work programs are a featured component of these programs.  Engineering diploma students are highly sought after in the workplace even without an Engineering Bachelor’s degree.

If you want to study in Canada, this is a good place to start, studying a engineering diploma program.

The Hands-On Learning Advantage

Hands on Studying in CanadaPractical know-how and theory must go hand in hand; at least that is the experience of University of Alberta professor Jeffery Kavenaugh.  An award winning professor, Kavenaugh is currently designing drones as a learning tool.

What are some of the advantages of practical experience?

  • Students Have Different Learning Styles – some students learn from the textbook but others need that hands-on experience to learn better
  • Gives Students and Edge in a Competitive World – if you get that practical experience while studying, you have a completive advantage over other unemployed peers.
  • Helps Land Jobs in the Industry – In Canada, industries want experienced employees.  If you are studying in Canada, it is difficult to get experience unless education and practical application go hand-in-hand.
  • Improves Student/Teacher Interaction – Students and teachers are more apt to interact and discuss the subject at hand.

The University of Alberta is a study in Canada institution where you can get both the practical and the theory by participating in their Co-op programs, internships or being part of an innovative classroom like that taught by Jeffery Kavanaugh.
