Gone are the days when learning a language was full of grammar drills, oral recitations and humdrum boredom. Western University’s Spanish for Beginner’s course is anything but dull. A class project made Spanish come alive as classmates created children’s books (in Spanish) that will be placed in the hands of school children in Cuba.
The project was designed to enhance language learning for Western University students, but it also provides story books for school children 2,500 kilometres away. Western students have found it a great way to learn but also a way to connect to the community and contribute to a school library in Cuba.
It’s a fun way to learn. Consider attending Western University next year – maybe you will participate in a project where you can learn and have fun at the same time.
